GREG PEARCE: Weeknight News Reader
In a career spanning more than three decades, Greg has worked in radio and television in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. His early career was as a country radio presenter in Bunbury, his hometown.
Then, after five years with 6IX in Perth then eight years with ABC radio and television, Greg had his first stint at Channel Nine between 1982 and 1987. The Today Show commenced in 1982 and his first job was presenting the WA early morning news followed by the first late morning news bulletin in Perth, the 11.30 Report. Later, he presented the 6 o’clock News with Anne Conti for three years.
Greg then worked for Network Ten for fifteen years, from its inception in 1988. Centralization of their news service in 2000, meant relocating to Sydney, and after four years he decided it was time to come home.
With no immediate opportunities in Perth, Greg returned to his roots and took a position with ABC Radio in Bunbury presenting an early morning statewide program then, in 2007, taking on the role of SW Regional Manager.
In early 2008 Greg had the pleasure of returning to Channel Nine Perth to work with Dixie Marshall on the 6 o’clock News. He’d first worked with Dixie, when she was a cadet sports journalist at Nine. Their career paths separated for more than fifteen years until this year. Greg is excited to be involved with the revamped Nine News and the return to Perth of A Current Affair, presented by Louise Momber.
Away from television Greg enjoys spending time with his rapidly expanding family. He and his wife Jennifer have three adult children and three grandchildren, who get spoiled at every opportunity. Greg is a golf tragic, enjoys spending time at the family beach shack in Falcon, and is a passionate football follower. After being a fence sitter for many years, enjoying both local teams’ successes, Greg’s allegiance is now firmly with the Dockers. His WAFL team is East Fremantle and it was only a matter of time before Freo took over as his AFL favorites.”
